Wednesday 10th March 2010 - 17:49 VAUXHALL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF ASTRA SALES IN UK
VAUXHALL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF ASTRA SALES IN UK Six generations of Astra launched since first car went on sale in Feb 1980.

All six generations have been produced in UK at Ellesmere Port
Nearly 3 million UK Astras sold in last 30 years.

Luton - After 30 years, nearly three million UK sales and six generations, Vauxhall's Astra can now lay claim to be one of the Britain's best loved cars, accounting for almost one in 20 of all vehicles currently registered in the UK*.

Officially, Britain's best selling UK-built car, the latest Mk6 Astra, launched last December, is already selling ahead of projections and has been instrumental in securing production of future models at Ellesmere Port, Vauxhall's main manufacturing plant in the Northwest of England.

Since the first Astra rolled out of a UK dealership in February 1980, over 2.8 million Astras have found UK homes. It's been this popularity which has helped make Britain the lead market in Europe for the Astra, accounting for 25 per cent of all its sales.

From when the first Astra went on sale, it rapidly gained a reputation for adopting the latest technology and innovation. The Astra Mk1 was Vauxhall's first car to incorporate both front-wheel-drive and a transverse engine layout, and also the first Vauxhall to be offered with a diesel engine in 1982.

It also gained a great image as a drivers' car, spawning the iconic GTE, as well as the later GSi (Mks 3 & 4) and VXR (Mk5), many of which formed the basis for heroic motorsport campaigns in both international rallying and the British Touring Car Championship.

Moving on three decades and the 2010 Astra Mk6 carries the mantle from its predecessors with pride. A driver's car through and through, it features a clever Watt's linkage/compound crank rear suspension design and unique-in-class nine-beam AFL lighting system, highlights which illustrate Vauxhall's continued passion for innovation and bringing new technology to a wider audience.

One thing's for sure, few cars on sale in the UK today have captured the hearts of so many British buyers like the Astra.
Monday 8th February 2010 - 16:48 Vauxhall Swappage
Vauxhall Swappage Vauxhall Swappage moves the game on still further from the Government-backed scrappage scheme, with at least £3,000 off all new Astras, Astra Sport Hatches and most new Corsa models, in exchange for any roadworthy car they own which is at least seven years old.

But unlike some rival manufacturers, Vauxhall swappage is imposing no upper age limit on the car customers trade in. Better still, unlike the current scrappage scheme, even buyers who have a ten year old car (or older) to swap only need to have owned it for 90 days - and we will also allow a husband/wife to trade in their partner's car, as long as they live at the same address.

The New Aveo RS Concept The all-new 2011 Chevrolet Aveo is due to go on sale later this year and though we don't have all the technical details for it, we do have a preview of the upcoming compact in the form of the Aveo RS concept car revealed today.

The Aveo RS will be unveiled officially at next week's 2010 Detroit Auto Show and despite being called a concept, the stylish hatchback is essentially a dressed up version of the production version that will eventually appear in showrooms.

Tuesday 5th January 2010 - 17:30 The New Meriva - Breaks Cover
The New Meriva - Breaks Cover These are the first official pictures of Vauxhall's new Meriva, which is set to turn the conventional concept of family-car usability on its head with a combination of clever, rear-hinged back doors which radically improve access/egress, and a raft of unique cabin features that boost interior versatility. The new Meriva, which will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, is the first Vauxhall to feature FlexDoors, showcased on 2008's Meriva design concept. FlexDoors are rear-hinged back doors which swing open towards the back of the car at an angle of nearly 90 degrees, vastly improving the ease with which occupants enter and leave the cabin. Rather than having to step back, or to one side, as one would using a normal front-hinged door, the FlexDoor allows unimpeded forward access/egress to and from the cabin, enhanced further by the Meriva's exceptionally high roof line. For parents with children, there are further benefits

Wednesday 18th November 2009 - 09:49 Service Excellence Award
Service Excellence Award There’s the general perception that main dealer servicing is expensive but it needn’t be. With very reasonable labour rates and high standards of workmanship, at Great Central Vauxhall in Rugby that certainly isn’t so. Their busy workshop is equipped to handle all aspects of vehicle repair and servicing and Vauxhall has rewarded the company for the excellence of its customer service over the last three consecutive quarters of this year when the dealership came top in its region. Service Manager, John Hickton, said: “We’re very pleased indeed to be recognised by Vauxhall for our hard work but we know that to continue to maintain our standard we can’t rest on our laurels. We aim to
exceed the expectations of all our customers and will strive to further improve on the levels of service provided.” John works closely with Workshop Controllers Eric Martin and Mandy Donnan and the team of highly skilled, manufacturer-trained technicians to ensure that everything in the service department runs smoothly. Manny Kalia and Andrea Crampton are Great Central Vauxhall’s Service Advisors in Rugby.
